Fireguard™
Advanced fire-rated fuel storage tanks for superior safety and efficiency
The Forgeweld Fireguard™ tank represents the next generation of fire-rated, self bunded tanks, designed for the safe containment of all blends of oxygenated fuels, including methanol. Featuring an innovative, lightweight insulation technology called Steel Tank Institute of America (STI) Ingredient “B”, a technology patented by the STI. Fireguard™ sets the standard for aboveground storage tank (AST) safety and durability.
Features

Double-Walled steel construction
A steel primary containment tank is enclosed within a steel secondary tank, offering unmatched protection and safety. Manufactured from Grade 335JR South African carbon steel plate with a protective white epoxy external surface that can be modified if needed.
Lightweight insulation technology
The thermal insulating material is super lightweight – 75% lighter than concrete – significantly reduces shipping, installation and relocation costs, making it an economical choice.
Crack-resistant design
Eliminates the risks associated with cracking concrete and spalling, ensuring long-lasting performance.
Fireguard™ technology has advanced far beyond that of concrete-encased ASTs. The exterior steel wall provides superior protection against the elements and low-cost maintenance.

Temperature control and reduced emissions
Insulates stored products from ambient temperature variations, reducing emissions and enhancing environmental safety.
Leak detection
Interstitial space can be monitored for leaks, ensuring proactive maintenance and safety.
Chemical compatibility
Compatible with a wide range of fuels and chemicals, including biodiesel and ethanol.
Customisable and versatile
Fireguard™ tanks come in many more size options than most competitive brands. Available in cylindrical or rectangular designs, compartmentalised configurations, concrete pad designs for sites in Seismic Zone 4, and tank supports manufactured in accordance with STI’s UL Listings.
Forgeweld Fireguard™ ASTs are fitted with top manholes and fittings and bosses to accommodate filling, dipping and suction outlets. Units can be provided with an access ladder or platform.

Fireguard™ proven safety features
The highest standards are followed in the manufacturing of forgeweld composite tanks, which meet or beyond the demands of the world’s leading standards authorities.
The primary tank has been tested to maintain an internal temperature below a specified limit for up to four hours, reducing the risk of an explosion during a fire.
The primary tank has a tested ability to prevent penetration by bullets and leakages if impacted by a vehicle to lessen the risk of spillages.
A tested ability to prevent leakage of the primary tank or damage to the insulation material when exposed to a fire hose water stream for 2.5 minutes, making the storage of flammable liquids safer.
Both the primary and secondary tanks are equipped with emergency vents, an important safety feature that reduces the risk of explosion in the event of fire.
Compliance and certification
Fireguard™ has been fully tested by the US standards authority Underwriters Laboratory in accordance with UL 2085 and has both the Fire-resistant Type and Protected Type listing for Insulated Secondary Containment Aboveground Storage Tanks.
South African National Standard (SANS) 10131:2004 allows the use and installation of Fireguard™ Tanks in South Africa.
